Ride of the Week: Toyota’s New Concept Combines an SUV and Cargo Van

Set to be unveiled at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show, Toyota’s new concept combines an SUV and cargo van. Like some other concept vehicles, this one is a little ridiculous in the name department. The Tj CRUISER combines toolbox (“T”), joy (“j”) and CRUISER (normally used for the SUV lineup to “express the power of the vehicle”) like the vehicle itself combines sliding van doors and cargo space with the blocky body of an 8-bit SUV. While we would certainly love to hate this concept purely because we’d much rather see a new MR2 or Supra, it does have some interesting features. Front and rear passenger seats can go completely flat to store items up to 10 feet long, and tie-down points throughout make your cargo easy to secure. The hood, roof and fenders are made of materials with a special coating to resist scratches and dirt. It’s powered by a 2.0-liter engine with a hybrid system for some get up and go. In other words, the Tj CRUISER is built for those people that need a cargo van on a regular basis but want something a little more stylish and powerful.
