Recently, fast-food chains have begun approaching their menu much like a B-movie sci-fi director. Rather than come up with something legitimately compelling, the goal is to craft a combination so absurd, customers will be surprised into purchasing the novelty. Whereas the B-movie director will concoct strange mixtures like, say, sharks and tornadoes, fast-food chains are forced to combine disparate food groups.
So now, hot on the heels of dubious successes as Taco Bell’s Fiery Doritos Locos Tacos Supreme and KFC’s heart-stopping Double Down, Burger King is leaping headfirst into the fray with it’s own monstrosity: Lucky Charms Milk Shakes.
The shake is made pretty much exactly how you’d expect: They take vanilla soft-serve, spin it up with some sweet syrup, and sprinkle pieces of the oat cereal and marshmallows liberally throughout. It’s a combination that literally nobody asked for but will probably sell relatively well based on nostalgia alone. All that’s required for a sip of this diabetic coma in a cup is a Burger King near you and $2.99.
Combine this announcement with Lucky Charm’s recent marshmallow-only giveaway, and it’s highly likely that there’s a leprechaun fuming somewhere about all these new customers going after his Lucky Charms.
Look for our official review of the sugary shake soon. In the meantime, we can attest that it does taste eerily similar to a bowl of Lucky Charms, if that’s something you’re into.
