Bucs WR Louis Murphy Had Way Too Much Fun at a Wedding and Woke Up Locked Inside a Museum

Buccaneers wide receiver Louis Murphy has found himself in some pretty precarious situations throughout the course of his NFL career. Remember the time he got arrested in Florida for driving around with an unmarked bottle of Viagra in his car and then told police it was unmarked “because he did not want his girlfriend to know he had a prescription for it”? Welp.

But Murphy found himself in an even crazier situation over the 4th of July weekend when he attended the wedding of his former Florida teammate Deonte Thompson, who now plays for the Bears, at the Flagler Museum in Palm Beach, Fla. on Friday. According to a police report obtained by the Tampa Bay Times, Murphy—who later admitted that he had been drinking during the wedding, because duh—left the reception at some point on Friday night, wandered into a courtyard inside of the museum, and fell asleep on a set of steps. And when the 29-year-old woke up at around 1 a.m. on Saturday, he realized that the wedding had ended and that there was no one else inside of the building with him.

“When he woke up, everyone was gone,” the report says, “and the doors were locked.”

Murphy told police that he started panicking once he realized he was all alone and “broke the glass” on one of the doors inside the museum so he could find a phone and call 911. The police arrived a short time later, and while he wasn’t charged with any crime, he was forced to pay for the damage he caused to the window, which was estimated to be worth about $1,000. Murphy was also forced to release this statement explaining what in the world happened to him after he left the wedding.

“This was really just a series of small unfortunate circumstances,” he said in the statement. “With no one around, my only option was to break a small glass pane of the door in order to access a phone and call for help. I dialed the police and explained that I needed assistance. It’s unfortunate that I needed to break the glass, but the police officers on the scene and museum staff acknowledged that I didn’t have any other options. I’m working with the museum to ensure everything is properly handled.”

Murphy’s night actually could have gone a lot worse. Fortunately, he didn’t ruin the wedding or anything. But he’s going to have a hard time living this one down when Thompson gets back from his honeymoon.
